09 February 2008

This walk took us back to the Ladybower area and we followed the River Derwent on a circular walk from Heatherdene down into Hathersage. A very clear day for February...

The first of the drain holes at the side of the dam near Yorkshire Bridge... Looking up to the right of the photo can be seen the heather being burnt...

And here's a closer look at the drain on the Win Hill side of the dam...

As ever, there's always a waterfall of one sort or another, especially when following a river...

Time for a spot of lunch, and where better than at the side of the river... The view to our right...

And the view to our left..

And the view of the two of us...

Further on, we came across this "shortcut" over the river... No, we didn't cross over there, it looks a tad too wet for us...!

After we'd followed the river into Hathersage, we walked along the main road to wards Castleton and headed up into, and through, Bamford and ended up walking through some fields... We found a spot to stop and rest awhile in the sunshine... To the right, just through the trees, in the distance, is the top of Win Hill ...

And looking the other way, there are the rocks of Bamford Edge...

Still, it was warm enough that day to sit and rest for a while, before continuing back towards Heatherdene and the car park...

As we made our way back to the car park, we ended up heading towards Bamford Edge on the same path we'd taken on our descent from the Edge, thus allowing a clearer shot of Ladybower than when we last went on that path...
